Maroon 5 star, Mickey Madden arrested on domestic violence charge

Mickey Madden, bassist with pop-rock group Maroon 5, has been arrested on charges of domestic violence.

According to Page Six, the star was first arrested on Saturday June 27, but news of his arrest was confirmed by major US outlets on Wednesday, July 1.

According to the Los Angeles Police Deoartment, Mickey, 41, was taken into custody on Saturday in LA, under under penal code 273.5(a) with the charge described as ‘wilfully inflicting a traumatic injury on a spouse or cohabitant’. The identity of his alleged victim has not been made public.

Madden has been released from custody after he posted $50,000 bail but he will be expected in court on 29 September over the charges.

He faces six years in prison and a fine of $6,000 (£4,839) if found guilty.

Maroon 5 is an American pop rock and funk pop band from Los Angeles, California that is made up of lead vocalist Adam Levine, keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Jesse Carmichael, bassist Mickey Madden, lead guitarist James Valentine, drummer Matt Flynn, keyboardist PJ Morton and multi-instrumentalist Sam Farrar.

Madden has been part of Maroon 5 since the early days of the band’s inception and also played alongside the group before they found fame, in the 90s. This isn’t the first time the bassist has been in trouble with police officers, after he was arrested on cocaine charges four years ago.

A spokesperson for the group confirming the arrest to British news site Metro UK said: ‘We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously. ‘For now, we are allowing all of the individuals involved the space to work things through.’
