Let her go and die in my house - Nigerian dad threatens to take his daughter out of an isolation center over poor treatment by staff (video)

A video of a Nigerian dad complaining bitterly over the poor condition his daughter is allegedly being subjected to at an isolation center, has surfaced online.

The man who introduced himself as Mr Olanutu, told reporters during an interview that his daughter who is diagnosed with the novel Coronavirus, has been left unattended to by the medical staff at one of the isolation centers.

Although he did not mention which of the Isolation centers, the aggrieved dad also said his daughter had not been fed since she was moved into the isolation center.

''Let the Minister come and see what is happening. If I am telling lies, my name is Mr Olanutu.

What the hell are they doing here? She hasn't seen a doctor since morning, she hasn't seen a nurse, she hasn't been fed and you are telling me that I should not take her out. Let her go and die in my house, simple. I don't care anymore. For the fact that you have Coronavirus does not mean you should be left around'' he said

Coronavirus: AGF Malami counters claim of President Buhari not having the power to declare lockdown in states, provides legal justification

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami has provided a legal justification for the total lockdown order issued by President Buhari in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT.

Recall that the lockdown order issued by President Buhari ignited controversy as some top lawyers argued that he doesn't have such power.

However AGF Malami insisted that the president did not commit any illegality as Section 305(6)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) permits a proclamation of a State of Emergency to run for a period of 10 days without the approval of the National Assembly when the parliament is not in session. He also pointed out that the National Assembly has shut down.

The AGF further disclosed that top lawyers who argued against the order goofed as the correct position remains that the president acted rightfully under the powers conferred on him by the Quarantine Act 1990 CAP 384 LFN which has the title: “An Act to provide for and regulate the imposition of quarantine and to make other provisions for preventing the introduction into and spread in Nigeria, and the transmission from Nigeria, of dangerous infectious diseases”.

Malami said;

“It is important to inform the discerning members of the public that the President did not make a declaration of a state of emergency under Section 305(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which would have required the concurrence of both House of the National Assembly.

“Even at that Section 305(6)(b) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) permits a proclamation of a State of Emergency to run for a period of 10 days without the approval of the National Assembly when the parliament is not in session as in the present situation wherein the National Assembly has shut down.

“The learned silk also goofed when he questioned the President’s powers to restrict movement and claiming that such powers can only be exercised by the state governors and the respective state assemblies.

“It is clear from the President’s broadcast that what His Excellency sought to address is a public emergency occasioned by a dangerous and infectious coronavirus disease. The restriction of movement came on the heels of advice received by the President from the Federal Ministry of Health and the NCDC, the two focal agencies in the fight against COVID-19.

“Section 3 of the Act enables the President to declare any part of Nigeria as an infected area. Section 4 of the Act further empowers the President to make regulations to prevent the introduction, spread and transmission of any dangerous infectious disease.

“Section 6 of the Act requires the President and State Governors to provide sanitary stations, buildings and equipment. Thus, in recognition of the critical roles being played by the state Governors in these trying times, the Federal Government has been working with the states in line with the dictates of Section 6 of the Act,” he said.

The AGF added that “the President has so far acted in accordance with the executive powers of the federation conferred on him under Section 5(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as well as the provisions of Section 14(2)(b) which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government."

N6 reigntes beef with Toke Makinwa as he asks her to stop talking about Coronavirus and stick to 'topics she knows'

N6 has reignited his feud with Toke Makinwa by taking a swipe at her following her comments on China and Coronavirus.

Toke Makinwa said a week ago that the world should fine China for the Coronavirus pandemic that originated from Wuhan (read here). She received backlash for her comments and she later reacted to it (read here).

Well, N6, who had beef with Toke last year and slammed her by releasing her old photos (read here), reigned the feud by telling Toke that she doesn't have the range to discuss Coronavirus.

Reacting to Toke's comment on China, N6 wrote: "Sis!! Stick to Topics you know About. You don't have the Range for this Type of Discussions."

Angry men in Onitsha throw away trader's bowl of Garri because she sells at a exorbitant price (photo)

Some men in Onitsha allegedly went into town today to condemn traders who increased prices of food items.

A female garri seller was however dealt with as a big bowl of her garri was thrown away by the said meen who were angry that she increased the price of her goods from N500 to N1500.

Facebook user, Jestymoore Nnokwa who shared the story wrote;

"Today In onitsha, igbo boys went into town to see those wicked and cruel market women selling food items at exorbitant prices, unfortunately for this Garri seller, she was selling Garri of N500 for N1500 and the boys threw everything away on the ground. They were upset with what they saw in the market today in onitsha market
But do you support the action of the boys?
Let's have your say on this."

Soldiers can’t be deployed to enforce lockdown - Falana

Human Rights Activist, Femi Falana has stated that it is illegal for soldiers to be deployed to enforce the lockdown order issued by President Buhari.

Falana asked the federal government to reconsider deploying troops to enforce the order, as it is up to the police to protect "our nascent democracy" and not the military.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria who stated that such acts might make Nigeria's democracy wittingly or unwittingly militarized, urged the military to focus on the ongoing war against insurgents in the North-East.

The statement reads;

“Following the national broadcast of President Buhari on the COVID-19 pandemic, some lawyers have questioned the constitutional validity of the restriction of locomotion of people in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states. No doubt, the President is empowered to adopt any measures deemed fit to combat the dangerous disease but such measures have to be spelt out in a Regulation made pursuant to section 305 of the Constitution or under the Quarantine Act. Otherwise the presidential order on restriction of movement in the affected areas cannot be enforced by the police.

“However, while the nation’s armed forces should be commended for making their medical facilities available to members of the public in the fight against the highly dangerous virus the plan to dispatch armed soldiers to the streets to enforce the COVID-19 guidelines should be shelved because it is illegal.

“For the umpteenth time, I am compelled to draw the attention of the military authorities to the case of Yussuf v Obasanjo (2005) 18 NWLR (Pt ) where Salami JCA (as he then was) held that “It is up to the police to protect our nascent democracy and not the military, otherwise the democracy might be wittingly or unwittingly militarized. This is not what the citizenry bargained for in wrestling power from the military in 1999. Conscious steps should be taken to civilianise the polity and thereby ensure the survival of and sustenance of democracy.”

Coronavirus Testing kits heading to the UK contaminated with the disease

Coronavirus testing kits that are due to arrive in the UK have been contaminated with the novel disease.

The news comes after Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who has now been infected with the disease said 3.5 million antibody tests have been ordered to enable health officials to carry out 11,000 tests a day.

According to the Daily Telegraph, it has been discovered that key components ordered from Eurofins, a company based in Luxembourg, had been contaminated with COVID-19.

The report claims that Eurofins has warned laboratories in the UK that delivery of parts referred to as ‘probes and primers’ had been contaminated.

The fo said that the issue can be resolved by ‘proper cleaning’ but admitted the discovery would result in a delay.

A spokesperson for Eurofins told the Telegraph: ‘In rare occasions, delays in some orders may occur if based on Eurofins Genomics stringent quality and environmental control procedures, manufacturing of a product may not meet the quality or purity criteria set by Eurofins Genomics.

‘We are aware that contaminations of the nature you mentioned have been observed by several primers and probes manufacturers around the world after they produced SARS-COV2 positive controls.

‘Those initial problems can be easily resolved by proper cleaning and production segregation procedures.’

Coronavirus: Buhari’s lockdown order is legal - Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that President Buhari's lockdown order in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT is legal.

The Vice President who disclosed this while speaking at a Google Hangout, a programme organised by HACK COVID-19 Call Centre in Abuja on Monday March 30, stated that the legality of the president’s order is unnecessary because it is backed by an act of the national assembly.

In a statement issued by Osinbajo's media aide Laolu Akande, the Vice President stated that the Quarantine Act of 1926 which is published in all Nigerian laws allows the President to designate any local area, any part of the country, as a place that may be infected or under the threat of a communicable disease, and he can then make regulations of any kind.

He said;

“Regarding the legality of the shutdowns announced by the President yesterday, -Sunday-I think it is entirely legal. These steps are proactive, very relevant, important and backed by law.

“I am not so sure some of the people who have commented on the issue have come across the Quarantine Act. There is a Quarantine Act of 1926, it’s been published in all of the Laws of Nigeria, every edition of the Laws of Nigeria, it is there.

“What the Act does is that it allows the President to designate any local area, any part of the country, as a place that may be infected or under the threat of a communicable disease, and he can then make regulations of any kind.

“For instance, he can say, people should not go out; no public gatherings etc. So, it is a regulation that gives the President powers and these powers come from the National Assembly because, of course, it is an act of the National Assembly.

“So, the President has extensive powers under the Quarantine Act of 1926. Also, Governors have extensive powers under the same Quarantine Act.

“It is barely a one page legislation, so it is not particularly difficult to find the relevant provisions and it is not particularly difficult to read, very straightforward. So, the President has all the powers.

“Many of us are not familiar with the Influenza pandemic that killed several millions around the world in 1918. At that time regulations were made here, very similar to what we have today, although that was under the colonial authorities.

“They also banned public gatherings, banned gatherings in places of worship then. So, there is even good historical precedence for some of what we are doing today.”

A follower responded telling him to keep quiet.

The follower admitted that he's hungry and has nothing to eat due to the coronavirus lockdown and Don Jazzy sent 100, 000 Naira to his account.

Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad reacts to speculations that President Buhari addressed Nigerians from Cuba

Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant to President Buhari on New Media, has mocked Nigerians who speculated that President Buhari addressed the nation from Cuba on Sunday night.

Some Nigerians on Twitter insinuated that the flag behind the President during his address was that of the Cuban nation and that he is currently in that country.

Bashir took to Twitter to laugh off the claim and also educate them on what the flag stands for.

Tolu Ogunlesi who is the special assistant to President Buhari on Digital/new Media, also explained what the flag stands for

Niece dies, 16 members of family infected after attending funeral of aunt killed by coronavirus

An 86 year old woman, Sheila Brooks from the UK died last month from coronavirus and now the family has come out to encourage people to take social distancing measures seriously after losing two loved ones to coronavirus and almost 16 relatives have become infected with the virus.

Sheila died on February 9 from Covid-19 and her funeral was held on March 13.

Within days after her burial, niece Susan Nelson, 65, fell ill and later died of coronavirus even though she had no underlying health conditions. Susan, a retired sandwich shop owner from Halesowen, West Midlands, died on the same hospital ward as her aunt Sheila.

Now, a further 16 family members- including Susan's husband, daughter, a niece and a great-uncle who have the virus, have said they suspect they caught the virus at Sheila’s funeral.

Susan's daughter Amanda, 34, an NHS business support manager, is now isolating with her father, Robert, who suffers from Addison’s Disease.

Amanda said she is worried the disease could claim the life of other family members

‘My 21-year-old cousin has it, right the way up to a great uncle that is 88 and is showing some symptoms. ‘It is a whole section of us, none of us seems to have been missed out of it just yet. It’s a bit strange.' She said to Metro UK.

‘I would say around 17 family members have been displaying symptoms since going to that funeral. It’s hit young and old in our family.Our beautiful, caring mum was the centre of the family – we are a very close, large family and this has destroyed us.’

Susan's 42 year old son Carl, who lives in Cleckheaton, Yorkshire, said to Metro UK: ‘She was coughing a lot, very breathless and showing all the traditional symptoms. He added that her sudden death ‘shows how quickly this can escalate’.

‘I managed to speak to her on the phone when my dad got [to the hospital] and all she wanted was for me to come down,’ Carl said.

‘I had my suitcase packed ready to head down, but the hospital were telling me I wasn’t allowed.

I had to tell her they wouldn’t let me and I wasn’t allowed to see her. I didn’t want her to die thinking that I didn’t want to come. ‘We have got to beat it and we can’t have any other families to go through what we are going through at the moment.

‘It’s about getting the message out. It’s about seeing the faces of loved ones and thinking this is real.’

‘The speed it acts at is phenomenal and how vicious it is can’t be underestimated. ‘Everyone, please follow the advice. Stay home, stay safe. Anyone who thinks they are fit and healthy, that it’s just like the cold or flu, don’t risk it.’ Carl said

Amanda added: ‘The last person I thought it would take would be my mum. I was worried about my dad, who has underlying health conditions.’

Ganduje declares one day prayer and fasting in Kano against coronavirus, says prayer is the best fire against the disease

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has declared a one-day fasting and prayer as part of measures to stop the spread of coronavirus in Kano state.

The Kano Governor made the announcement on Sunday March 29, during the inauguration of the fund-raising committee on COVID-19. He asked residents of the state to observe the fasting and prayer which will take off today, March 30.

Ganduje who stated that prayer is the best fire against the COVID-19, also pleaded with retired health workers in Kano to help the state fight the virus.

He said;

“As Nigeria recorded over 90 cases of coronavirus, Kano is yet to record a single case, hence the need for the government to be up and doing to contain the outbreak of the deadly disease,” Ganduje said.

“I call on Kano people to observe fast tomorrow, (Monday) 30th March, and 5th Sha’aban and pray hard against the outbreak of coronavirus in our dear state.

“I also call on people to intensify prayers because prayer is the best fire for this disease. While we are putting effort into taking preventive and curative measures against the coronavirus pandemic, there are some groups of people who cannot earn a living, who must go out to fend for their families.

“There are those who are economically weak and must be affected during this trying moment. That is why we decided to form a committee to raise money in order to help them cushion the effects.”

Drake shares first adorable photos of his 2-year-old son, Adonis

Drake shares first adorable photos of his 2-year-old son, Adonis
Canadian rapper Drake has finally shared first photos of his 2-year-old son, Adonis who he welcomed with Adult movie star, Sophie in October 2017.

Drake who kept his son's identity a secret before now, shared a string of photos showing off his curly-haired son who he cuddled in some of the photos taken at his custom-built Toronto mansion.

The rapper disclosed that they were isolating separately due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. He opened up on missing his son who he can't wait to get back to.

Drake wrote;

What is most important for you right now is to connect to your own inner light. This will create the biggest opening of all. Trust that you have all of the power within to make this happen, and in order to do that connect to the people and things that bring you a lot of joy. When the mind starts to move into overthinking or fear, shift your attention right away to something bright.
It doesn’t matter what has happened in the past or what is happening around us now, you can always make the choice to break free of the wheel of suffering and panic and open up to your own light. We are powerful manifestors , so once you make the choice in the moment to shift your awareness to something good, it will show you in your reality. Be conscious, especially right now of fears coming in from others, and recognize that not everything should be held by you.
Laughter is your best medicine, but tears can also be a powerful release. Let go of any judgment you may have around that. Remember that you are never alone, and if you need to be reminded of that ask for support and it will show up. Everything comes down to intention, and even though there are conflicting energies circling around us you must KNOW...It will rebuild. But in order for that to happen, you have to do exactly that. Trust. You have the biggest heart and that is your greatest gift.
It’s impossible to always control your surroundings, but when you shift the focus to how you want to feel, everything will conspire to assist you. I love and miss my beautiful family and friends and I can’t wait for the joyful day when we are all able to reunite. Until then please keep your lights on.

Tom recently shared an update on Twitter. He wrote, “Hey, folks. Two weeks after our first symptoms and we feel better.”

He continued, “Sheltering in place works like this: You don’t give it to anyone — You don’t get it from anyone. Common sense, no? Going to take a while, but if we take care of each other, help where we can, and give up some comforts… this, too, shall pass. We can figure this out.”

It doesn't take too much to show that you're smart and intelligent. This is highly commendable. They've made safety of their guests a big priority in this Coronavirus era. Kudos to the couple.Like this! 16Dislike this! 1Reply

Social distancing of 20 at a weddings or any gathering is stupid. Just cancel all these ceremonies, period. You can have one infected person transmit to others regardless of how small you make the crowd. Stop making the situation worse .Like this! 0Dislike this! 0Reply
