Saraki writes IG, denies links with Offa bank robbery suspects

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has written to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, denying any links with the robbers that attacked several banks in Offa, Kwara state on April 5th.

Recall that the robbery suspects had confessed to be political thugs of Saraki and that the senate president provided them with the arms and ammunition they use during elections which they now use for robbery.

The police in June invited Saraki for questioning over the claims made by the suspects but Saraki responded to the invitation in writing, denying the claims.

On Monday June 23rd, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, wrote to Saraki, asking him to appear for questioning over the claims by the suspects. Saraki however could not honor the invitation following the seige that was laid around his home by security agencies.

However, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Saraki, Yusuph Olaniyonu, says the senate president has responded to the June 23rd summon in writing. Yusuph said Saraki in his recent letter, denied the allegations leveled against him by the suspects.

Yusuph said Saraki’s letter was written and dispatched to the police on Tuesday and was duely received by the police. He added that there was no need for Saraki to go to the police personally after writing to them.

“He has written a letter to them and the letter has taken care of the purpose of the invitation. He sent the letter to them yesterday (Tuesday). The letter addressed the issues raised in the invitation letter,” Olaniyon told Punch

The police spokesman, Moshood Jimoh, could not be reached for comment on Saraki’s letter as he did not respond to several phone calls.
