Fearne Cotton admits she was 'drowning in misery of a dark patch' in her life

Radio One DJ Fearne Cotton

Fearne Cotton has hinted that she suffered from depression saying: “I hit a very dark patch and lost sight of it ever passing.”
The TV star , 34, previously told how her split with former fiance Jesse Jenkins saw her hit “rock bottom”.
And in a new candid interview, the mum-of-two admits she felt like she was “drowning” in misery, but has learnt that in order to be happy she has had to accept herself.
She says: “Happiness to me means acceptance. Being truly at peace with who we are. Knowing that we will of course all have great times but also some very tough times.
“A few years ago I hit a very dark patch and lost sight of it ever passing. I was drowning in it all rather than reassuring myself that those feelings would soon pass.

Fearne was going though a rough patch

“Rather than avoiding sorrow and darkness you have to embrace them, learn from them, grow from them. Long-term happiness is about being able to ride out the bad with the good.”
Fearne split with skateboarder Jesse nine months after he proposed on her birthday in September 2010. Talking about the painful separation, she said in a previous interview: “That felt pretty crap. It was around the time of the Royal wedding so there was this big thing about marriage everywhere, but my life was the opposite of that.”
Fast forward five years, and Fearne is now happily married to Ronnie Wood’s son Jesse, 39, with two children Rex, three, and six-month-old Honey. And she says the first dance on their wedding day still possesses a “dream-like quality”.
Writing for Glamour, she continues: “During mine and Jesse’s first dance, I have never been so in the moment.
“I was unaware of anyone watching, unaware of time passing, I was simply lapping up every delicious second of this magical moment.
“This memory still has a dream-like quality about it.” Aw, bless.
