'He's nothing like we remember him': Neurosurgeon reveals Michael Schumacher is now 'very altered and deteriorated' six years after his accident

According to an Italian neurosurgeon, Formula One car racing legend, Michael Schumacher is very 'deteriorated' and is a shadow of his former self six years after he suffered a terrible accident while skiing in France.

Schumacher, 51, just left a long term coma suffered after a serious brain injury in December 2013 when he fell and hit his head on a rock while skiing off-piste in the French Alps.

Schumacher who is reportedly in a vegetative state, is being cared for by a team of doctors in his Lake Geneva mansion together with his wife Corinna and their two children Gina-Marie, 22, and Mick, 20.

Schumacher, a seven time world champion who dominated F1 Car racing from 1994-2004 made a lot of money while at his peak, which is being used to cater for his health.

Neurosurgeon Nicola Acciari, who is based in Italy, claims he is now 'a person very different from the one we remember on the track'.

'We must imagine a person very different from the one we remember on the track, with a very altered and deteriorated organic, muscular and skeletal structure,' Acciari told Italian newspaper Contro Copertina.

'All as a result of the brain trauma he suffered.'

I'm always careful with such statements, but it's true. I saw the race together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland,' he said.

'Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house. He does not give up and keeps fighting.'

'His family is fighting just as much and of course our friendship cannot be the same as it once was just because there's no longer the same communication as before,' Todt added.

Schumacher has not been seen since the accident, leaving the public to speculate on his condition
